The Chiquibul Cave system is the largest and longest cave system in Central America. Deep within its chambers, it holds the magnificent artifacts of the Mayans who performed rituals in the caves. Along with artifacts, the little-explored cave system is home to unusual and still-unidentified species. The biodiversity in the cave system depends on the integrity of the Chiquibul Forest above it. FCD is working to uncover and preserve its rich history and biodiversity. The conservation group aims to make it a World Heritage in order to spread awareness of its significance.
